Me! ME!! Call on me!!! ... Oh, hi there. This is Hermione... naturally. Professor McGonagall is allowing me to take a quick break from class in order to show you the ropes of myHogwarts.

On this page you can find information about the website's origin, how to register, and what it's all about. For more information, contact Jess by email (my.hogwarts.mail@gmail.com) or on AIM (sn: missheadmistress).

ORIGIN: Believe it or not, it all started in Neopets.

Once upon a time...
Several years ago (approx. 2001), the creator of this website joined a Harry Potter guild in Neopets. Over several month's time, she became more and more knowledgeable about HTML coding, and then when the leader of the guild suddenly disappeared, she took the initiative to create her own Guild. For the next few years, she maintained that guild and expanded into new names and themes, but the idea was still Harry Potter. With the help of several key members, she developed the most recent guild as a sort of RPG Hogwarts, where members were sorted into Houses, attended classes, and participated in contests, all contributing to monthly House Cup Competitions.
But within this history lies a dream.
After a while, Neopets became just a place for the chatting and competition to take place. Jess and her fellow members and friends wanted to create something more--an online Hogwarts that gathered members from all over, not just through Neopets. Several years later, during the summer of 2007... here it is.

REGISTRATION: Become a part of myHogwarts.

Fortunately and unfortunately, myHogwarts is free.
Although this means that you can join without any cost to you, this also means that we are running on Angelfire's free website service, which makes a lot of really fancy things quite difficult. Therefore, there will be no logging into the website itself, so certain areas may not be as customized as we'd like them to be. However, a majority of the action on the website takes place in myHogboard, the forum area of our website, which does require logging in. You can begin activity in myHogboard immediately upon registering.
So how do you join?
Simply read the registration manuel here and follow the link to register.
When do I start?
You will not be able to become a student if the term has already started, but you will be contacted once the term ends about becoming a First Year for the next year. Each year lasts two months and each summer lasts about one month. For dates of the current year, check the home of myHogwarts or myHogboard. However, while you are an underage (pre-student) member, you are still invited to be active around the site! You can root for Houses in the House Cup, participate in some activities, and become friendly with all our members.

INVOLVEMENT: Joining means nothing if you don't know what we do here.

The progression through myHogwarts is very similar to a wizard's progression through life.
Underage -> First Year -> Second Year -> Third Year -> Fourth Year -> OWL -> NEWT -> Of-Age Wizard
Our House Cup competitions last about 9 weeks, and at the end of this period, members who completed the requirements of the level will advance to the next year. This pattern of succession applies to the first four rankings. After completing their fourth year, members will go on to OWL and then NEWT, during which the requirements for advancement become personal as decided by the member and their House Head. After students "graduate" from Hogwarts, they become Of-Age Wizards, where they will take on jobs.
myHogwarts students are expected to attend classes.
Classes are required of all students and not completing the assignments for a class will prevent a student from entering the next year. Students in each of the 6 years must attend each of 5 mandatory classes: Care of Magical Creatures, Charms, Herbology, Potions, and Transfiguration. Students may also choose from a number of electives, typically relating to their desired careers, to take along with the 5 mandatory classes. Classes are updated once weekly, and short "homework assignments" must be completed for each lesson.
myHogwarts also offers several activities to provide challenges and fun to the members.
Our various activities are optional but fun, and most offer prizes of House Points or wizard money. Only sorted Hogwarts students should do the activities with House Points as the awards; there are no replacement awards. However, activities that award wizard money are open to all members. Most of our activities are short competitions, directed toward different abilities and strengths to help the members of myHogwarts along their paths.
What else is there?
myHogwarts contains a forum (myHogboard) on which members can talk about the books and movies, as well as any other Harry Potter going-ons. We are very enthusiastic about expansion, so all ideas are welcome. Any suggestions may be submitted via email to my.hogwarts.mail@gmail.com, or to Jess through the PM system in myHogboard.

DISCLAIMER: This part's fairly important...

Sadly, I am not JKR.
Disappointed? So was I, that one day that I woke up and realized I'm not... but really. The creators of this website and its current administration, as you can read about in our About Us section as well as above in the page, are high school and college students who have grown up with Harry Potter. We've done our best to bring myHogwarts to you as a virtual Hogwarts, however, we do not in any way wish to claim Harry Potter as our own. We bequeath our greatest thanks to JKR for everything she's done.
